FreedomPop: Going Against the Grain in a World of Paid Services

A truly free Internet experience has come that can drastically reduce the cost of mobile bills for users in major metropolitan areas. FreedomPop’s flagship offer is free cell phone service which includes unlimited texting, 200 voice minutes and 500MB of 4G data. For cell phone users who already have a plan through another provider, FreedomPop really saves customers money through their free Internet access offer. Users can access 500MB of free 4G data every month through a simple refundable deposit on one of their wireless hotspot devices (A FreedomPop review conducted by Bible: Money Matters).

The wireless service is aimed at “light” users who typically use their 4G data for checking emails and browsing social media while on the go and have consistent reliable access to Wi-Fi, not users who spend the majority of their day streaming content via Youtube or Spotify without said Wi-Fi access. Should the 500MB of data not be enough there are ways to gain additional free data. Referring friends to the FreedomPop service adds an additional 10MB of 4G data per friend. Additionally mobile users can complete offers and surveys for more data as well as download software.

FreedomPop also offers paid services that are much lower in cost compared to major cell carriers. On top of free Internet access, the carrier also provides a $5/per month Wi-Fi voice calling plan. This can be great for users who have little need for cell service outside of major cities, the idea being that most calls are made from work, home or other areas where Wi-Fi is available. FreedomPop’s most popular option is their $20/per month plan which comes bundled with unlimited talk, text and 1GB of high-speed data. Once the threshold for data has been reached, data drops from 4G to 3G. For users who have access to Wi-Fi throughout most of the day this can significantly reduce the cost of cellphone bills coupled with one of the free Internet options for those rare occasions when Wi-Fi is not available.

FreedomPop’s quality is assured through their use of the Sprint network. Through their deal with Sprint however, users bringing their own devices must have phones that are compatible with Sprint. The carrier does offer phones for customers who do not have one or one that is compatible with the network. FreedomPop stands alone in the sense that they offer truly free Internet and Mobile service.
